What is New Bentley OpenRoads Designer CONNECT Edition
The following summarizes the features and enhancements in 2020 Release 2.
General
- Enhanced the file opening behavior to prompt user if the dgn needs to be upgraded from an earlier version of software or from a different product such as OpenRoads to OpenRail. Previously the dgn was automatically upgraded from earlier versions of software without prompting. If the option to upgrade is accepted, a backup of the original file is created in the file's directory. The prompting can be hidden, and files automatically upgraded or automatically opened read only the configuration variables CIVIL_UPGRADE_PROMPT_OFF and CIVIL_OPEN_OLD_READONLY.
- Enhanced the Training-Imperial and Training-Metric WorkSets to look for civil cells in the same folder as the active dgn.
- Enhanced the t-intersection civil cells with a new clipping reference and naming convention.
- Fixed the Viewset mvba to not crash in certain situation.
- Added a new configuration variable CIVIL_ROADWAY_TEMPLATE_LIBRARY_SAVEAS to define the default folder for the Template Library Save-As command. If this variable is not defined, the Save-As command defaults to the location defined by the CIVIL_ROADWAY_TEMPLATE_LIBRARY variable.
- Added a new configuration variable CIVIL_SURVEY_PHOTOS_FOLDER to define the path where images files are located for a survey fieldbook.
- Fixed the Asset Manager and Materials files in example Metric Workspace to use metric units.

Drainage and Utilities
- Added support for OpenFlows Tap and Property Connection types in the Structure Type property of a node feature definition.
- Fixed several issues with manipulators for nodes and conduits in a profile model. Note that the Set Invert to Start / Stop properties on a conduit, if set to True, will cause the related invert manipulator to be read-only. Also, the File > Settings > User > Preferences > View Options – Civil > dialog now includes an option to Show OpenFlows Calculated Slope, in the Drainage and Utilities category. This will cause the conduit slope manipulator to use the OpenFlows slope, which is measured using the center to center length of the conduit, instead of the exact (i.e. clipped) length. Note that the OpenFlows slope is a read-only value.
- Fixed a crash when deleting a delineated catchment, if the catchment is connected to a node and the node is deleted before the conduit.
- Fixed an issue loading data when a link does not have a start and / or stop node.
- Added a new dialog that displays the links with missing nodes in each database and allows you to delete some, or all, of the links. The key in for this is SUBSURFACE OPENLINKSMISSINGNODESDIALOG.
- Added the ability to use the local design constraint for a conduit, instead of the default design constraint. This lets you override default values such as the depth of cover, minimum velocity, etc., which can be helpful if the conduit is modelling an open section such as a ditch.
- Enhanced the catchment acreage to update when the catchment area is modified.
- Fixed the Update Standards from dgnlib tool to correctly synchronize drainage and utilities standards. This means that the properties for a prototype and associated catalog that are used by a feature definition in the DGN will be updated from the dgnliib.

Subsurface Utilities Enhancement
This version of Subsurface Utilities is based on the Haestad CONNECT Edition Update 1 release (10.01.00.70).
Hydraulics & Hydrology Enhancements
- The New Storm Event Scenarios tool that was introduced in Update 2 has been enhanced. It now lets you choose the return periods and durations to use from IDF storm data, and converts it into rainfall depths, before creating the storm events, scenarios, alternatives and calculation options required for simulations.
- Support has been added for the UK Flood Estimation Handbook rainfall data, which can be calculated by specifying appropriate values for the six catchment descriptors. This calculates IDF data, which can then be used in combination with an appropriate storm profile to create rainfall data for use in simulations.
- Support has been added for the Australian Bureau of Meteorology rainfall data, which can be downloaded as a CSV file. This provides IDF data (DDF data is automatically converted) which can then be used in combination with an appropriate storm profile to create rainfall data for use in simulations.
- Additional return periods can now be added to the UK Flood Studies Report and Flood Estimation Handbook IDF storm data formats. A 75-year return period is now added automatically.
- Storm event data now stores the name of the library and storm profile used to create it, to make it easier to see how it was created.
- The ability to sort relevant hydraulic FlexTables in dendritic order has been added.
Modeling Enhancement
Feature definitions for hydraulic (storm and sanitary) elements now support the selection of a subset of the available User Data Extensions (UDX). As an example of how you might use this, you could set up two UDX fields for pipe bedding - one for carrier drains and one for filter drains - and choose the appropriate one for each conduit feature definition. This would ensure that only the valid bedding types are available for each type of conduit.
Defects
- Several issues have been addressed in the functionality for conduits that follow a terrain model, such as Communications ducts.
- Issues have been addressed when changing the start or stop node for a conduit, and to ensure that the profile model correctly reflects the new node data.
- Issues have been addressed to prevent the top of a node being raised above the referenced terrain model or mesh, and also to ensure that the bottom of a node is correctly updated when the size of a conduit is changed.
- An issue that could cause an incorrect longitudinal slope to be set for a catch basin, when placed relative to a mesh, has been resolved. In this version, a catch basin placed relative to a mesh or a terrain model will take its longitudinal slope from that surface. If you want the longitudinal slope to be read from a linear element, such as a gutter or kerb line, then select that as the reference for elevation.
- Functionality was introduced in Update 2 that allowed a node feature definition that only uses a single cell (such as a headwall) to support two elevation points, so that separate ground and invert levels could be assigned to it. Whilst this worked for nodes that were placed, relative to a terrain model, it did not work for nodes that were placed with a typed in elevation, which has now been addressed.
- An issue has been addressed that was causing the display of hidden parts of a cell. This issue occurred if the cell was created using Boolean operations in MicroStation V8i, and the option to retain the original elements was set. For cells created in MicroStation CONNECT Edition, the original elements are always retained. Either way, a cell that looked correct in MicroStation would not look correct when placed as part of a node.
- The extruded part of a node now correctly uses the material defined in the element template for the bottom cell.
- An exception that occurred if a material attached to a cell could not be found has been resolved.
